Leaves alternate , simple , oblong to obovate , acutely cuspidate-acuminate , attenuate , entire except at the base , which is usually glandular-denticulate , petiolate . Inflorescences apparently terminal or axillary , subcorymbiform , up to 14 cm . long . Flowers unisexual , red , pink or vermilion , ± 2 . 5 cm across , star shaped , usually in clusters . Male flowers ; petals oblanceolate , rounded at the apex , glabrous , scarlet or pinkish . Female flowers calyx , corolla and disc as in ♂ ; ovary ± conical . Fruit capsule , ± 1 x 1 cm , rounded-trigonous , smooth , green . Seeds 0 . 9 - 1 cm long , ovoid-ellipsoid , buff-coloured , mottled blackish-brown , dull or slightly shiny . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
