Jatropha pelargoniifolia Courbon

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, extending to Kenya and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 known species of Jatropha found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Spreading shrub ; up to 1 m tall , glandular with bark peeling in papery brown rolls . Stems slightly succulent , reddish brown , emitting a clear latex , densely white hairy ; young twigs glabrous or densely patent pubescent . Leaves alternate , palmately 3–5-lobed to subentire , 2-3 x 4-6 cm , lobes rounded , base cordate , margin serrate to dentate , dull green , densely white-hairy ; stipules ± 1 mm , dark brown ; petiole 2-4 cm . Inflorescences of many-flowered terminal panicles , glabrous or tomentose ; bracts ± 3 mm , ovate . Flowers monoecious with more male flowers than female . Male flowers: sepals 5 , ± 1 mm , ovate , white-hairy ; petals 5 , 3-4 mm , greenish-yellow ; stamens 8 , filaments united to 3/4 the length . Female flowers: sepals and petals ± same as in the male flowers ; ovary 3-locular , glabrous . Fruit capsule , 10-11 mm in diameter , subglobose , glabrous or pubescent , bright green , dehiscing septicidally .
