Alysicarpus vaginalis (L.) DC.

This species is native to Tropical Africa and Tropical & Subtropical Asia to N. Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are four species of Alysicarpus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody based , annual or perennial herb ; up to 25 cm tall ; roots with nodules . Stems erect to ascending or creeping , glabrous to sparsely pubescent . Leaves 1-foliolate , 8-25 x 5-14 mm , oblong to suborbicular to oblong-lanceolate , obtuse at the apex , subcordate at the base , glabrous above , sparsely beneath , petiolate . Inflorescences terminal and leaf-opposed , 2–13 cm . long , mostly dense . Flowers orange or purple or greenish with dark pink to purple streaks ; calyx 5-6 mm , lobes not overlapping at the base ; corolla about as long as the calyx . Fruit pod , linear-oblong with straight margins , puberulous , indehiscent . Seeds 1 . 5-1 . 7 mm , yellowish , speckled brown or entirely yellow-brown , ellipsoidal , slightly compressed . (Ref .
