Astragalus fasciculifolius Boiss.

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 8 species of Astragalus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Spiny shrub ; up to 60 cm tall . Stems profusely branched , bark white , lateral branches spine-like , up to 2 cm , white-grey tipped brown , sharply pointed at the tip , pubescent with basifixed hairs . Leaves paripinnate , with 2(-3) pairs of leaflets , glaucous , shortly petiolate , in fascicles on the main stem and the spiny lateral branches ; leaflets 5-9 x 2-4 mm , obovate to oblong-obovate , obtuse , pubescent . Inflorescences solitary or 1-2 in the axils of leaves . Flowers pink to pink-purple ; calyx 11-12 mm , tubular , becoming inflated and membranous , pinkish at first becoming whitish later , lobes short acute ; corolla pink to pink-purple , ± 15 mm . Fruit pod , ± 10 mm , stipitate , enclosed within the calyx , 2-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .

الاستخدامات


The resin is used for bone fractures in Musandam as well as in Eastern Hajar. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden). In Omani studies: Ghazanfar (2007) wrote that: "In Musandam, childern pick and suck the flowers for the sweet nectar. Bees feeding on this species produce a good quality honey". (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol. 2).
