Cajanus cajan (L.) Huth

This species is native to Indian Subcontinent, widely cultivated in tropical and semitropical regions around the world. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one species known of Cajanus grows in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect perennial shrub , up to 4 m tall , with roots extend up to 2 m . Stems erect , ribbed , woody , branched . Leaves alternate , pinnately tri-foliolate , petiolate , stipulate ; leaflets elliptic to lanceolate , entire , acute apically and basally , green above and a silvery grey-green beneath , covered in small yellow glands . Inflorescences in terminal or axillary racemes . Flowers yellow , zygomorphic ; stamens 10 . Fruit pod , straight or sickle-shaped , compressed , 2–9-seeded . Seeds 8 mm in diameter , lenticular to ovoid , white , brown , purplish , black or mottled . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
