Cicer arietinum L.

This species is native to the Middle East and Asia. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one species known of Cicer grows in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

A slender , erect annual herb ; up to 1 m tall , with extensive root system . Stems erect , simple or branched , glandular pubescent . Leaves alternate , 5-7 pairs of leaflets ; leaflets with toothed margins and weak , spreading , glandular hairs . Inflorescences solitary , axillary ; peduncle 0 . 7–2 cm . long . Flowers small , bilaterally symmetrical ; petals white or lilac to violet ; stamens 9 ; ovary 2–3 × 1–1 . 5 mm , ovate . Fruit pod , dry , small , inflated , ovate-oblong , with glandular hairs , 1–2(–4)-seeded . Seeds to 14 mm in diam . , oblong-obovoid , laterally compressed , with smooth or rough surface , variable in colour (usually creamy-whitish when dried) . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
