Crotalaria aegyptiaca Benth.

This species is native to Egypt, Arabian Peninsula to India. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There are 7 species of Crotalaria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrublet ; up to 45 cm tall , profusely branched , usually almost leafless when in flower . Stems erect , much-branched , with stiff grey/green ribbed branches , forked at right angles and slightly hairy . Leaves alternate , simple , sessile , 3-14 x ± 2 mm , oblong-elliptic to obovate , white-pubescent on both surfaces . Inflorescences in few-flowered lax racemes . Flowers single , pea-like ; calyx 5-8 mm , 2-lipped , lobed into linear-acuminate lobes , pubescent , persistent ; corolla with standard petal yellow with dark brown lines or petals tinged brown ; stamens all joined with 5 long and 5 short anthers . Fruit pod , 7-10 x ± 4 mm , greyish , soft , ellipsoid , inflated , 1-4-seeded . Seeds yellow/brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .

الاستخدامات


The whole dry plant used as spark to create instant fire. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden). Ghazanfar (2007) wrote that: "Fresh shoots are eaten by goats and camels". (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.2).
