Crotalaria persica (Burm. f.) Merrill

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula, extending to Iran and Pakistan (Baluchistan). (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 7 species of Crotalaria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Low , intricately branched , deciduous shrublet ; up to 50 cm tall . Stems profusely branched , intricate , ribbed , grey-green , rigid , weakly spine-tipped , appressed pubescent . Leaves 1-3-foliolate ; leaflets 5-15 x 2-7 mm , obovate to elliptic-lanceolate , often the terminal leaflet largest , white-pubescent on both surfaces . Inflorescences in few-flowered lax racemes . Flowers yellow ; calyx 5-6 mm , lobed into triangular-acuminate lobes , pubescent , persistent ; corolla with standard petal yellow with purple veins ; keel rounded , 4-5 mm , pale yellow ; stamens all joined with 5 long and 5 short anthers . Fruit pods , 7-12 mm , ellipsoid , pinkish in colour , inflated , grey-brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
