Crotalaria retusa L.

This species is native to tropical Africa, W Asia, S China, Indian subcontinent, Indo-China, N Australia; widely naturalized in tropics. (Ref. https://sites.google.com). There are 7 species of Crotalaria found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Bushy perennial ; up to 150 cm tall . Stems erect , woody , ribbed , unbranched , appressed pubescent . Leaves alternate , simple , 3-7 x 0 . 9-2 cm , oblong-obovate , rounded or emarginate at the apex , with entire margins , glabrous above , finely puberulous beneath . Inflorescences racemes 10–30 cm long , many-flowered . Flowers pea-like with red veins ; calyx 7-20 mm , 2-lipped , the upper lobes bigger , triangular-acute , appressed pubescent , persistent ; corolla with standard petal ± 2 cm , yellow with brown-red veins ; keel rounded , ± 15 mm , beak twisted ; stamens all joined with 5 long and 5 short anthers . Fruit pods , 30-35(-5) x ± 10 mm , blong , inflated , beaked , glabrous , reddish-brown , with many seeds , borne along the branches . Seeds c . 5–5 . 5 mm long , yellowish or brown , oblique-cordiform , with the narrow end strongly incurved , finely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
