Indigofera colutea (Burm.f.) Merr.

This species is native to Tropical Africa, S Africa, Arabian Peninsula, India, SE Asia and Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 16 species of Indigofera found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual to short-lived perennial herb ; up to 25 cm high , covered in velvet-hairs . Stems woody , branched , decumbent to ± prostrate , white-pilose and glandular with black brown glands . Leaves imparipinnate with 7-9 leaflets ; leaflets 5-9 x ± 5 mm , opposite , obovate to broadly elliptic , appressrd pilose , apex obtuse with a mucro , base tapering . Infloescences borne in stalked racemes in leaf-axils . Flowers red ; calyx ± 2mm , linear , pilose ; corolla with standard petal ± 3 mm , dark red within , pale without , wings reddish , keel green , ± 2 mm ; stamens 3-3 . 5(-4) mm long ; style 1 . 2-1 . 6 mm long , slightly curved upwards . Fruit pods , (10-)18-20 x ± 1 . 5 mm , straight , not flattened , glandular and appressed pilose , becoming purple tinged when ripe , 8-14-seeded . Seeds 1-1 . 2 x 1 mm , shortly cylindrical to quadrangular , slightly wringkled . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
