Lotus corniculatus L.

This species is native to Temperate Eurasia, Macaronesia, extending to NE & E Tropical Africa, and SW Arabian Peninsula; introduced and naturalised in many parts of the world. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 5 species of Lotus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 30 cm high , grey-green . Stems prostrate or ascending , ± glabrous . Leaves 5-foliolate , the lowest pair stipule-like on the stem ; leaflets 5-20 x 3-10 mm , oblanceolate , acute or obtuse , cuneate at base , ± glabrous . Inflorescence umbellate , 3-5 on axillary peduncles . Flowers yellow , sometimes orangish ; calyx ± 7 mm . Fruit pod , c . 3 cm long , narrow , straight , many seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
