Low annual herb ; up to 30 cm high , hairy . Stems prostrate to spreading . Leaves 3-foliolate with small stipules ; leaflets 5–10 mm long , 4–5 mm wide , obovate , with dense simple and glandular hairs , wedge-shaped , tapering to the base , toothed near the tip . Inflorescences in 3-8-flowered racemes . Flowers yellow ; sepals pubescent , teeth shorter than the tube , one is usually longer ; corolla 2 . 5-3 mm , less than twice shorter than the calyx , yellow to pale yellow . Fruit pod , 2-4 mm diam , black to blackish brown , shortly cylindrical , in a lax spiral of 1–2 turns , usually pubescent , spiny ; spines short , straight , deeply grooved or furrowed .
