Ononis sicula Guss.

This species is native to Mediterranean and N Somalia easwards to Arabia and Iran. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There is only one species of Ononis occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 20 cm high , covered with fine glandular hairs . Stems erect to ascending , many , branched , arising from the base , pubescent and glandular , somewaht viscid . Leaves 1(-3)-foliolate , grey-green ; stipules 5-7 mm , lanceolate ; petiolate up to 6 mm ; leaflets 10-20 x 3-7 mm , oblong , rounded at the apex , cuneate at the base , dentate margins especially so at the apex , glandular . Inflorescences solitary in the axils of leaves . Flowers yellow ; calyx 9-10 mm , 5-lobed to 4/5 of its length ; lobes 7-8 mm , lanceolate , acute , pubescent with glandular hairs ; corolla with standard ± 5 mm ; filaments all united . Fruit pod , 10-15 mm , inflated , yellow-brown , chartaceous , splitting at maturity . Seeds tuberculate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
