This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent to S. China and Indo-China, (Ref. POWO; 2022). West Indies and northern South America (probably introduced). (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.2). There are 4 species of Sesbania found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
Small tree or shrub ; up to 3 m tall . Stems erect , branched from the base , glabrous or glabrescent , sparsely aculeate , fairly thick . Leaves paripinnate with ± 20 pairs of leaflets ; stipules ± 5 mm , linear-lanceolate , falling soon ; rachis up to 30 cm , aculeate on the lower side ; leaflets 10-20 x 3-4 mm , oblong , obtuse glabrous to sparsely pilose when young , glabrous when old . Inflorescences borne in 2–8-flowered axillary racemes ; pedicels up to 10 mm , slender . Flowers yellow , purple-spotted ; calyx 4-4 . 5 mm , lobes 0 . 5-1 mm , triangular , acute , ± pubescent on the margins ; corolla with standard petal yellow with purple to blackish flecks , 10-11 x ± 10 mm , appendages adnate to the claw ; wings yellow ; keel pale green to white ; ovary glabrous ; style glabrous , 2–3 mm long .
