Sesbania sesban (L.) Merr.

This species is native to Tropical & S. Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent; (Ref. POWO; 2022). introduced elsewhere. (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.2). There are 4 species of Sesbania found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub or small tree ; up to 3 m tall , short-lived , with a deep root system . Stems soft , woody , glabrous or glabrescent , pale green . Leaves paripinnate with ± 12 pairs of leaflets ; rachis 4-14 cm ; leaflets 10-20 x 3-4 mm , oblong , obtuse with a small mucro , glabrous , narrow triangular ; stipules ± 5 mm , narrow triangular . Inflorescences in 4–20-flowered axillary racemes ; pedicels up to 12 mm , slender . Flowers yellow ; calyx 4-5 mm , lobes 0 . 5-1 mm , triangular , acute ; corolla with standard petal yellow within , pale yellow with violet to purple flecks without , 12-15 x ± 18 mm , appendages with free tips , not adnate to the claw ; wings yellow ; keel pale green to white ; style glabrous , c . 5 mm long .
