Subshrub or woody perennial herb ; up to 1 m tall , densely woolly pubescent throughout . Stems erect , branched , grey-green , white-pubescent with spreading hairs . Leaves 3-foliolate ; petiolule 0 . 5-1 mm ; stipules 1-3 mm , bifid , brown , persistent ; leaflets 3-14 x 3-12 mm , obovate to obcordate , entire margins , obtuse or sometimes emarginated and mucronate at apex , base cuneate , woolly pubescent on both surfaces . Inflorescences 1–5(–8)-flowered , in pedunculate racemes ; pedicel ± 1 mm . Flowers persisting and becoming brown chaffy in fruit ; calyx 3-4 mm , teeth ± 3 mm , lanceolate acuminate , woolly pubescent ; corolla with standard petal 5-7 mm , yellowish , pink or purple ; wings 2-3 mm .
