Taverniera spartea DC.

This species is native to Somalia, S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 5 species of Taverniera found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Subshrub ; up to 50 cm high . Stems grey-green , sparsely to densely white-pubescent , covered with remnants of stipules and leaves . Leaves 1-foliolate or sometimes trifoliolate ; petiolule 0-5-1 . 5 mm ; stipules 1-2 mm , bifid , brown , pubescent , somewhat persistent ; leaflets 4-20 x 3-15 mm , broadly obovate , entire margins , obtuse or sometimes emarginated and mucronate at apex , cuneate at base , glabrous to pubescent above , sparsely to densely pubescent beneath . Flowers 1-6-flowered , in pedunculate racemes , pubescent ; pedicel 1-2 mm . Flowers pink ; calyx 3-4 mm , teeth ± 3 mm , white-pubescent ; corolla with standard petal 9-10 mm , pink or pale pale yellow tinged with pink ; wings 6-7 mm . Fruit pod , flattened , 1-3-segmented , pubescent and densely covered with straight or curved or hooked spines , sometimes spines almost absent , yellow-brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
