Tephrosia purpurea subsp. apollinea (Delile) Hosni & El-Karemy

This subspecies is native to southwest Asia and northeast Africa. (Ref. POWO; 2022). There are 6 species of Tephrosia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or a short-lived evergreen perennial or subshrub ; up to 50 cm high . Stems erect to spreading , variable in indumentum , mostly white-pubescent . Leaves imparipinnate with mostly 5-7 leaflets , glaucous ; petiole up to 5 cm ; stipules narrow triangular , pilose ; leaflets 15-45 x 4-11 mm , oblanceolate to oblong-lanceolate , margins entire , apex subacute to obtuse or emarginate , apiculate , base obtuse to cuneate , appressed pubescent on both surfaces , young leaves and stems and lower surfaces of leaves silvery . Inflorescences in lax pedunculate pseudoracemes and sometimes in upper leaf-axils , up to 20 cm ; pedicels up to 4 mm , pubescent . Flowers purple to pink-reddish-purple ; calyx ± 4 mm , lobes ± 2 mm , lanceolate , the lowest lobe longest , strigose tp spreading pubescent ; corolla with standard petal ± 6 mm , pubescent on the dorsal surface ; wings ± 4 mm ; style glabrous , 2 . 5–3 mm long , not twisted , curved , penicillate at the tip . الاستخدامات


The plant is well-known used in northern Oman as a treatment for trauma or muscle ache. In the central desert, the plant is used as a treatment for painful ear without pus. The root crushed and the juice dripped over the affected ear. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
