Exacum arabicum Thulin

This species is native to S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Exacum found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Delicate annual herb ; up to 10 cm high . Stems simple or branched , weak , somewhat succulent and quadrangular , with slightly winged edges , glabrous . Leaves opposite , bright green , elliptic to elliptic-ovate to suborbicular , apex acute to rounded , margins entire , base tapering into a short petiole , 3(-5)-nerved , glabrous . Inflorescences solitary or in terminal or axillary cymes . Flowers blue to purplish-blue ; calyx 5-lobed , pale green with dark green wings ; corolla blue to purplish-blue , 5-7 mm ; stamens 5 ; anthers yellow , straight ; style ± as long as the stamens . Fruit capsule , mucronate with the persistent style . Seeds muricate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
