Monsonia nivea (Decne.) Webb

This species is native to Sahara, Arabia, Iran to Pakistan. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Monsonia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 30 cm tall , with long woody underground stem . Stems ascending to erect , white lanuginose , appressed pubescent . Leaves with alternate lower leaves ; upper leaves subopposite to opposite , petiolate , narrowly ovate to oblong-elliptical , 1 . 5-3 x as long as wide , 10-30 x 5-15 mm with the main veins deeply impressed , densely white lanuginose , apex acute or rarely obtuse , base truncate , margin serrate to crenate , sometimes reddish tinged at the margin ; petioles of lower leaves exceeding the blade , those above shorter . Inflorescences with 2-12 flowers on peduncles to 15 cm long , with white indumentum ; fruiting pedicels 3-20 mm long , often geniculate under the fruit . Flowers mauve to pink ; sepals 3-4 x 2-3 mm , ovate to obovate , mucronate , tapering to base , densely covered with white , mostly appressed hairs ; petals 1 . 5-3 x 1-2 mm , mauve to pink . Fruits mericarps 5-6 x 1 . 8-2 mm ; beak 35-50 mm , brown , pubescent , plumose . Seeds obovoid , glabrous . ... Expand
