Lamium amplexicaule L.

This species is native to Europe, western Asia and northern Africa; (Ref. POWO; 2023). widely naturalised in eastern North America and elsewhere. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one species of Lamium occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect leafy herb ; up to 25 cm tall , with shallow and fibrous roots . Stems erect to ascending , much branched at base , square , green to purple , soft , finely hairy . Leaves opposite , rounded , palmately veined , lobed margin ; lower leaves petiolated , rounded to heart-shaped , with rounded teeth ; upper leaves sessile , deeply lobed , encircling the stem at the base . Inflorescences a few-flowered terminal spike with axillary whorls . Flowers rosy-purple , in whorls , non aromatic ; calyx regular with five lobes ; corolla purplish-red , fused into a tube 15 to 20 mm long , upper lip convex , lower lip with three lobes ; stamens 4 . Fruit nutlets , egg-shaped to oblong , 3-angled , grayish yellow , 1-seeded . Seeds light to dark brown . (Ref . https://en . wikipedia . org) .
