Annual or perennial herb ; up to 80 cm tall , woody based , grey-green . Stems erect , square , simple or branching from the base , covered in stiff white hair . Leaves opposite , yellowish-green , shortly petiolate , up to 20 x 25 mm , ovate to suborbicular , base truncate , apex rounded to obtuse , margins crenate at the apex , pubescent ; petiole 5-10 mm . Inflorescences whorled clusters on a terminal spike ; bracteoles 5-8 mm , ovate-suborbicular , densely white-hairy ; pedicels ± 1 mm long . Flowers many , congested in each cyme , white ; calyx 7-8 mm , somewhat inflated , 10-nerved ; lobes 8-10 ; teeth ± 1 mm , narrow triangular , white-pubescent with long hairs ; corolla white , 10-11 mm ; tube ± 5 mm ; upper lip forming a hood , emarginate , densely ciliate on margins ; lower lip 3-lobed , the central longer than the two laterals ; stamens with eglandular filaments .
