Origanum majorana L.

This species is native to the eastern Mediterranean; introduced and widely cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one species of Origanum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb or subshrub ; up to 80 cm tall , aromatic . Stems erect , branched , reddish , square . Leaves simple , petiolate , ovate to round , 3–35 × 2–30 mm , obtuse apex , entire margin , with symmetrical but tapering base , and reticulate venation , smooth , highly aromatic , pubescent , gray-green . Inflorescences in spike-like clusters ; bracts gray-green . Flowers tiny , two-lipped , tubular , white or pale pink ; calyx 2–3 . 5 mm long , 1-lipped , tube almost non-existent , with posterior lip rounded , entire and bract-like ; corolla white , tubular , 3–7 mm long , 2-lipped ; stamens 4 , ascending under posterior lip , slightly exserted .
