Salvia dhofarensis sp. nov. A.G. Miller ined.

This species is native to S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.3). There are 9 species of Salvia known found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Subshrub ; up to 15-30 cm tall . Stems erect to ascending , branched from the base , arising from a woody base ; whole plant densely white-velutinous with dendroida and simple hairs . Leaves opposite , ±grey-green , erect , thick and somewhat rugose , ± sessile , ovate-elliptic to obovate , base cuneate , apex obtuse , margins ± entire to crenate , often inrolled , densely pubescent with dendroidal hairs and sessile glands ; nerves prominent on the lower surface . Inflorescences of terminal cylindrical spikes , with up to 10 flowers ; bracts dark purplish-green , 6-8 mm , narrowly elliptic , villous with long multicellular hairs interspersed with shorter glandular hairs ; hairs 1-2 . 5 mm . Flowers purplish ; calyx purplish-green , 6-7 mm , camanulate , 5-lobed , densely villous with long multicellular hairs interspersed with shorter glandular hairs ; lobes narrowly ovate , acuminate ; lower 2 lobes lobed to half of calyx length , upper 3 lobes lobed to 1/4 the calyx length ; corolla purplish/ , 2-lipped , 10-11 mm ; tube 7-8 mm , curved ; upper lip 2-lobed , lobes ...
