Mitreola petiolata (J.F.Gmel.) Torr. & A.Gray

This species is native to Tropical & Subtropical America. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Mitreola occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 20 cm high . Stems erect , simple or branched , quadrangular to narrowly winged , glabrous . Leaves opposite , 10-55 x 5-35 mm , ovate to elliptic , base tapering into a long petiole 5-20 mm , apex acute to obtuse , margins entire , glabrous to sparsely appressed pubescent , ciliate ; stipules ± 1 mm , broadly triangular . Inflorescences terminal or axillary , many-flowered ; pedicels up to 3 cm ; bracts 1 . 5-3 mm , narrowly traingular . Flowers tiny , white ; calyx 5-lobed , united to about a fifth of their length , ± 2 mm ; lobes ± 1 mm , ovate to triangular , glabrous ; corolla white to bluish , 1 . 5-2 . 5 mm , lobed above ; lobes ± 1 mm , triangular ; stamens 5 , inserted at the base of the corolla ; anthers yellow ; ovary subglobose , slightly compressed . Fruit capsule , 2-3 mm , 2-horned , the horns divergent , erect or curved inwards , adpressed-pubescent . Seeds ca . 0 . 5 mm , ellipsoid , concave on one side , smooth . (Ref .
