A semi prostrate herb , or short-lived perennial succulent herb ; up to 50 cm high , sometimes with woody rootstock . Stems erect to ascending , branched , often sub-woody at base , sometimes very long , smooth , somewhat succulent , often tinged red . Leaves alternate , 10-22 x 6-11 mm , fleshy , large , ovate to obovate-spatulate , apiculate tip , cuneate at base , entire margin , smooth ; petiole 1-4 mm . Inflorescences borne in lax , few- to many-flowered cymes , somewhat raceme-like . Flowers actinomorphic , bisexual , bright magenta-pink , 1 cm wide , shortly pedicellate ; sepals 4-8 mm , petaloid ; petals absent ; staminodes many , in 2 whorls , longer than the actual perianth , many , appearing as a large number of petals ; stamens free . Fruit capsule , 5-6 mm , yellowish-green , shining , dehiscing by 5 valves . Seeds purplish-black , concentrically ridged , with white aril . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
