Abutilon indicum (L.) Sweet

This species is native to Mascarenes, Tropical & Subtropical Asia, and to W Pacific. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 7 known species of Abutilon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

A multi-branched , erect velvety-pubescent perennial shrub or subrshrub ; up to 2 m tall . Stems round , often tinged with purple ; branches tomentose with stellate and simple hairs . Leaves alternate , simple , 2-18 x 1 . 5-16 cm , ovate , apex acute to acuminate , base cordate , margins irregularly serrate to dentate , both sides softly velvety-pubescent ; petiole as long or shorter than the blade . Inflorescences solitary , c . 2 cm across , axillary ; pedicel 1 . 5-8 cm . Flowers deep yellow to orange , open in the evening ; calyx 7-9 mm , green , lobes lanceolate ; petals 5 , obovate , 1-1 . 5 cm . Fruit mericarps , 15-20 , circular , flat topped , with stellate and simple hairs . Seeds reniform , slightly stellate , pubescent , dark brown or black . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
