Abutilon mauritianum (Jacq.) Medik.

This species is native to Tropical & S Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Comoros. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 7 known species of Abutilon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Soft-wooded shrub ; up to 1 m tall . Stems erect , stoutish , often purplish , tough when young , much branched , covered with soft white pubescence . Leaves 4-12 x 3-9 cm , stellate-pubescent , apex acuminate , base cordate , margins slightly dentate , the upper surface dark green , usually smooth , the lower surface grey-green with distinct and prominent venation ; petiole up to c . 18 cm . long , terete , sometimes longitudinally sulcate . Inflorescences solitary , axillary on main branches and on short axillary shoots ; pedicels often exceeding the petioles . Flowers yellow or orange ; calyx campanulate to cupular , 10–18 mm long ; petals 14–20 mm long , yellow , sometimes reddish at the base inside and/or with reddish veins in the basal portion ; staminal tube stellate-hairy . Fruit mericarps , more than 20 , spreading stellately , densely pilose when young , but almost glabrous at maturity , black when dry , 2-3-seeded . Seeds papillose-verruculose . (Ref .
