Abutilon pannosum (G.Forst.) Schltdl.

This species is native to Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Middle East, and Indian Subcontinent. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 7 known species of Abutilon found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Erect perennial herb or shrub ; up to 2 m tall , hairy . Stems and branches with velvety stellate hairs . Leaves alternate , 4-13 x 4-13 cm , grey/green , broadly ovate , apex acute to acuminate , base cordate , margins irregularly serrulate to serrate , stellate-hairy on both surfaces ; petiole as long as or shorter than the leaf blade . Inflorescences solitary , axillary , 3-4 cm across ; pedicel 1-3 cm . Flowers yellow with a purple centre , opening in the late afternoon ; calyx 7-12 mm , lobes ovate ; petals 5 , free , yellow to orange with dark red to purple base . Fruit mericarps , 24-28 , hairy at the back , glabrous on the sides , 1–3-seeded . Seeds ± 2 . 5 × 2 mm , reniform , brown , with simple or stellate hairs . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
