Durio zibethinus L.

This species is native to Sumatera and Borneo. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one known species of Durio occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An evergreen tree ; up to 30 m tall , with a conical crown , short straight trunk , and rough peeling bark . Leaves oblong , rounded at the base with pointed tips , green , glossy on the upper surface , silvery or bronze on the underside ; leaflets alternate , 6 - 20 cm long , 3 - 9 cm wide . Inflorescences borne on large branches in clusters of up to 30 flowers . Flowers bright yellow , cauliflorous , bloom at night , releasing a strong odour to attract bats ; calyx bell-shaped ; petals 3 , 5 - 7cm wide . Fruit large , up to 30 cm long and 15 cm in diameter , oblong to round , strong odour , thorn-covered rind , husk green to brown in colour , flesh pale yellow to red .
