Glossostemon bruguieri Desf.

This species is native to Iraq, Iran and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Glossostemon occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Robust perennial herb ; up to 60 cm high , with thick long tapering dark colored roots . Stems grey-green , stellate-hairy . Leaves alternate , 10-20 x 11-25 cm , grey-green , sub-orbicular to orbicular , margin shallowly and irregularly lobed into 3-5 main and several smaller lobes , palmately 5-7-nerved , densely stellate-hairy on both surfaces , patiolate ; petiole stout , up to 10 cm , stellate-hairy . Inflorescences in corymbose clusters . Flowers bright red , about 2 cm across ; calyx united basally , lobes acute , pubescent ; petals longer than the calyx , ovate , lobed at the apex . Fruit follicle , ± 5 cm , covered with long soft spines . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
