Hibiscus palmatus Forssk.

This species is native to tropical and southern Africa, NE Africa, Arabian Peninsula, S Iran, Pakistan and India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 9 known species of Hibiscus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual or perennial herb ; up to 35 cm high . Stems and branches prostrate to ascending , hispid hairy . Leaves alternate , 2-10 cm , petiolate , palmately lobed into 3-5 deep lobes , each lobe with apex obtuse , margin entire or irregularly dentate , crisped pubescent on the nerves . Inflorescences solitary , in leaf axils ; pedicels 0 . 5–2 cm long , articulated near the base . Flowers pale-yellow with a purple base , 1 . 5 cm across ; epicalyx of 7–8 bracts ; bracts 12–15 mm long , ± filiform or narrowly linear ; calyx 8-10 mm , 5-lobed , green-veined ; corolla ± 10 mm , obovate . Fruit capsule , ± 10 mm long , subglobose , sparsely pubescent . Seeds 3 x 2 mm , angular-subreniform , brown , adpressed pubescent . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
