Hibiscus sidiformis Baill.

This species is native to Tropical & S Africa, Madagascar, S Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 9 known species of Hibiscus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 70 cm high . Stems and branches erect , tomentellous . Leaves alternate , petiolate ; petiole 1-5 cm , hairy like the young stems ; lower leaves 5 x 7 cm , orbicular , base cordate , margins crenate-dentate ; upper leaves shallow to deeply 3-lobed , margin serrate to dentate ; stipules linear . Inflorescences solitary , in leaf axils ; peduncle up to 4 cm long , slender , pubescent . Flowers white or yellow , about 3 cm across ; epicalyx absent or minute ; calyx 7-12 mm , 5-lobed , lobes triangular , green-veined ; corolla 10-20 mm , obovate ; Staminal tube up to 12 mm . long ; style-branches c . 0 . 5 mm long . Fruit capsule , 5-10 mm , subglobose , pilose . Seeds c . 2 mm long , black , wedge-shaped , tuberculate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
