Hibiscus trionum L.

This species is native to the warmer regions of the Old World; introduced elsewhere. (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.1). There are 9 known species of Hibiscus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 60 cm high . Stems erect to spreading , branched , terete , stellate-hairy . Leaves alternate , 25-35 long and broad , simple , petiolate ; lower leaves orbicular to broadly ovate ; upper leaves palmately lobed into 3 deep lobes , each lobe futher shallowly lobed , apex obtuse , margin irregularly dentate , stellate-pubescent ; petiole 2–7 . 5 cm long , sparsely to densely pubescent with scattered stellate setae ; stipules linear . Inflorescences solitary , in the leaf axils ; pedicel 15–60 mm long . Flowers white-yellow with a purple base , 1 . 5-3 cm across ; epicalyx of 7-12 linear segments , hispid ; calyx 12-15 mm , 5-lobed , purple-veined , persistent , inflated and enclosing the fruit ; corolla 15-18 mm , obovate ; staminal tube 4–10 mm long ; filaments 3 mm long . Fruit capsule , ± 1 . 5 cm , oblong , villous , dark brown to black when dry , enclosed by the inflated calyx . Seeds 2–3 x 1–2 mm , grey-brown , wedge-shaped , tuberculate . (Ref .
