Malva neglecta Wallr.

This species is native to Canary Islands, Morocco, Europe to Central Asia and W Himalaya; introduced and naturlised world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Malva found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual with a woody base or a perennial herb ; up to 20 cm high , with a deep fleshy tap root . Stems spreading erect , branched , stout , stellate-pubescent . Leaves alternate , 25-30 cm long and broad , orbicular to reniform in outline , base cordate , margin dentate ; petiole 2-3 cm . Inflorescences 1-4 , axillary ; pedicel slender , 1-3 cm . Flowers white , to light pink to light purple , actinomorphic , small and dainty ; epicalyx 3 , linear ; calyx ± 5 mm , fused below , lobes acute ; corolla 7-10 mm , longer than the calyx , obovate , notched at the apex ; stamens many , filaments fused into a tube surrounding gynoecium ; pistil of several fused carpels . Fruit schizocarp , 6-7 mm in diameter , globose , composed of 13 to 15 mericarps , smooth , pubescent , margin not crested . Seeds reddish brown to black , flattened , rounded . (Ref .
