Malva parviflora L.

This species is native to Northern Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Western Asia, Southeastern and Southwestern Europe; widely distributed worldwide. (Ref. https://florabase.dpaw.wa.gov.au). There are 3 species of Malva found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Annual herb ; up to 25 cm high . Stems prostrate to erect , branched , spreading , sparsely stellate-pubescent to glabrescent . Leaves alternate , 2-4 x 2-4 cm , overall round , shallowly lobed with indented base , margins serrated , pubescent ; petiole 3-6 cm ; stipules lanceolate , ciliate . Inflorescences 4-5 , in the leaf axils ; pedicel 2-3 mm . Flowers white with a tinge of pink , epicalyx 3 , linear ; calyx 3-5 mm , enlarging in fruit , fused below , lobes ovate ; corolla 5-7 mm , as long as or slightly longer than the calyx , obovate , notched at the apex . Fruit schizocarp , 4-6 mm in diameter , depressed globose , glabrous or pubescent , with 7-11 mericarps . Seeds 1 . 4–1 . 8 mm long , brownish black , 1 in each mericarp , minutely rugulose . (Ref .
