Melhania phillipsiae Baker f.

This species is native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There are 3 species of Melhania found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub ; up to 1 . 5 m tall . Stems with dense downy stellate-pubescence . Leaves alternate , 6-10 x 4-8 cm , ovate , apex acute , base cordate , margin denticulate , with dense downy stellate-pubescence ; petiole 15–55 mm long ; stipules 3–20 mm long . Inflorescences in 1-3-flowered cymes , axillary ; pedicels up to 15 mm long . Flowers pale yellow , about 15 mm across ; epicalyx (bracts) ± 3 x 2 . 5 cm , orbicular-ovate , yellow-red to red-gold , persistent , enlarging and surrounding the fruit ; sepals united at the base , pilose , lobes acute ; petals 7–10 mm long , yellow ; staminodes 4–7 mm long ; style 1–3 mm long . Fruit capsule , 7–10 mm long , ovoid to subglobose , tomentose , with 2–3-seeded cells . Seeds 3–4 mm long , tuberculate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
