Leaves alternate , 6-10 x 4-8 cm , ovate , apex acute , base cordate , margin denticulate , with dense downy stellate-pubescence ; petiole 15–55 mm long ; stipules 3–20 mm long . Inflorescences in 1-3-flowered cymes , axillary ; pedicels up to 15 mm long . Flowers pale yellow , about 15 mm across ; epicalyx (bracts) ± 3 x 2 . 5 cm , orbicular-ovate , yellow-red to red-gold , persistent , enlarging and surrounding the fruit ; sepals united at the base , pilose , lobes acute ; petals 7–10 mm long , yellow ; staminodes 4–7 mm long ; style 1–3 mm long .
