Pavonia arabica Hochst. & Steud. ex Boiss.

This species is native to NE Africa, S Arabian Peninsula, S Pakistan, and NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 5 species of Pavonia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody annual or perennial subshrub ; up to 1 m high , sometimes much branched . Stems erect , pubescent , sometimes with glandular hairs . Leaves alternate , 8-40 x 5-22 mm , ovate to ovate-oblong , apex obtuse , base cordate to rounded , margin entire to obscurely dentate at the apex ; petiole up to 5 cm ; stipules filform . Inflorescences solitary , in the leaf axils ; pedicels jointed near the apex . Flowers pink , 1-1 . 5 cm across ; epicalyx of 9-12 linear segments , tomentose , persistent ; calyx 3-6 mm , 5-lobed , stellate pubescent ; petals about 1 cm long , 0 . 7 cm broad , obovate , rounded , claw hairy on the margin ; staminal tube about 6 mm long . Fruit 7 mm across , subglobose ; mericarps 5 , villous , enveloped by the epicalyx when mature . Seeds 2 mm long , 1 . 5 mm broad , 1 in each mericarp , dark brown . (Ref .
