Pavonia flavoferruginea (Forssk.) Hepper & J.R.I.Wood

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula, S Pakistan, and NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 5 species of Pavonia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub ; up to 1 . 5 m tall . Stems erect , pubescent with long and short hairs . Leaves alternate , 30-40 x 27-38 mm , broadly-ovate , apex obtuse , base cordate , margin coarsely dentate ; petiole 30-45 mm ; stipules ± 4 mm , filiform . Inflorescences solitary , axillary ; pedicel 20-30 mm . Flowers lemon-yellow with a darker red centre , about 1 . 8 cm across ; epicalyx of 5-7 segments , 11-15 mm , narrow-ovate ; calyx ± 8 mm , 5-lobed , pubescent and ciliate ; corolla ± 20 mm . Fruit mericarps 5 , 4-5 mm , puberulous , with a single or double row of spines on the dorsal keel . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
