Sida ovata Forssk.

This species is native to Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, and India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Sida found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 80 cm tall . Stems erect , stellate-hairy , terete to somewhat angled when young , becoming woody and hairless when older . Leaves alternate , simple , 2-5 x 1-4 cm , ovate to ovate-oblong , apex obtuse , base rounded , margins serrate to crenate ; petiole 5-10 mm ; stipules filiform to linear . Inflorescences solitary , axillary ; pedicel slender , jointed above the middle . Flowers yellow or cream white , bisexual , 10-12 mm across ; epicalyx absent ; calyx 5 lobed or toothed , 4-6 mm , fused below , lobes triangular , acuminate ; corolla ± 8 mm , obovate ; staminal column shorter than petals , glabrous or hairy ; anthers basifixed , towards apex ; ovary 5-14 carpellate ; ovules 1 per locule ; style 1 per carpel ; stigma capitate . Fruit schizocarp , 3-5 mm in diameter , depressed globose , partially enclosed by the calyx ; mericarps 5 , reticulately veined on the dorsal surface , provided with a small awn , indehiscent , 1-seeded .
