Cocculus hirsutus (L.) W.Theob.

This species is native to Eritrea, S Africa, Arabian Peninsula, SE Pakistan, India, S China. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Cocculus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial climber subshrub ; up to 10 m , densely hairy with rough , brown bark . Stems and branches yellowish tomentose . Leaves 4-8 x 2 . 5-6 cm , oblong-ovate , sometimes 3-5-lobed , base subcordate , cordate , cuneate or truncate , apex obtuse or mucronate , entire margin , densely yellowish tomentose when young , later subglabrous , petiolate . Inflorescences in axillary clusters . Flowers minute , greenish yellow ; sepals 6 , in 2 whorls ; petals emarginate ; carpels 6 . Fruit berry , 4-8 x 4-5 mm , fleshy , purple-blue when ripe , the septum surrounding the centre of the endocarp perforated . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .
