Morus nigra L.

This species is native to W & SW Iran; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 known species of Morus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

A deciduous , slender tree ; up to 12 m tall . Stems with numerous branches . Leaves 10–20 x 6–10 cm , petiolate , leathery , broadly ovate , deeply cordiform at the base and shortly acuminate on top , obtusely dentate along the edge , rough on upper surfaces and pubescent underneath . Inflorescences on short , green , catkins , appear in the axils of the leaves , pendulous . Flowers small , unattractive . Fruit berry , 2 . 5 cm in diameter , ovate , glossy , becoming succulent , fat and full of juice , dark purple , almost black when ripe . (Ref . https://en . wikipedia . org) .
