Boerhavia elegans Choisy

This species is native to NE and E Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, SW Pakistan, W India. (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.1). There are 3 species of Boerhavia found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Woody based perennial or annual herb ; up to 60 cm high . Stems ± erect , magenta-red , slender , branching dichotomously , fleshy , becoming woody towards the base . Leaves basal , 20-40 x 7-15 mm , oblong to obovate , reddish-green and with red sinuate margins ; petiole up to 10 mm . Inflorescences in lax , delicate panicles ; pedicels 15 mm , delicate . Flowers perianth , 2-3 mm ; stamens usually 3 . Fruit anthrocarp , 2 . 5-3 mm , clavate , 5-ribbed , glabrous on the ribs , puberulous in between . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
