This variety is native to the most of the eastern half of Africa, as well as parts of southern Arabia, but has also been spread to other regions as an ornamental plant. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is only one known species of Nymphaea occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
Aquatic herb with tuberous rhizome . Leaves 8–35 x 7 . 5–42 cm , glabrous or densely pubescent , orbicular or subelliptic , incised-cordate , peltate , lobes slightly divergent or somewhat overlapping , acute or caudate , margin usually entire or sinuate , upper surface smooth , under surface with conspicuously raised nerves , green or rarely reddish or reddish-purple . Flowers blue or pinkish ; sepals 4 , green or purple at the margins ; petals 14–20 , pinkish blue , acute to obtuse , oblong-lanceolate ; stamens numerous , densely congested , bright yellow ; carpels 14–24 ; style very short . Fruit depressed-globose . Seeds 1 . 2 mm long , ellipsoid . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
