Alectra parasitica A.Rich.

This species is native to Cameroon, extending to Ethiopia and S Tropical Africa, Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Alectra occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect branched parasite ; up to 6–30 cm high , parasitic on roots , drying black . Stems erect , slender , simple or with several branches arising from the base , puberulous ; with orange-yellow roots . Leaves opposite to alternate , 4–10 × 2–5 mm , sessile , few on the stem , thick and scale-like , embracing the stem , ovate-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate , entire , acute to obtuse , base shortly cuneate , puberulous to hispid on both surfaces . Inflorescences in terminal racemes , solitary in the axils of leaf-like bracts present in the upper part of the stem ; pedicels ± 2 mm ; bracts 3–4 mm , linearlanceolate ; bracteoles ± 2 mm , linear . Flowers small , orange with red to purple veins ; calyx 5–6 mm , campanulate with 10 distinct nerves , lobes 3–4 mm , triangular , margin thick , puberulous to hispid ; corolla orange with crimson red to purplish veins , 4-lobed , about 2 x length of calyx , lobes ± equal , rounded ; stamens 4 , ± unequal ; filaments glabrous ; anthers not apiculate . ...
