Annual or possibly perennial parasitic herb ; up to 15–25 cm high . Stems simple or sparsely branched , stems and branches narrow , pale yellow-brown , sparsely glandular-pubescent . Leaves rather few , 3–7 mm , lanceolate , glandular-pubescent . Inflorescences spicate , remote-flowered , lax , lower flowers ± pedicellate ; bracts 6–10 mm , ovate-lanceolate ; bracteoles 4–5 mm , linear , adnate to the calyx . Flowers mauve to blue ; calyx 5–7 mm , campanulate , 4-lobed divided to base into bilobed segments ± equalling the tube , sparsely pilose to glabrous ; corolla 12–16 mm , very narrow , erect to patent , inflated proximally , constricted immediately above , then ± tubular , widening slightly towards the limb , mauve to blue ; upper lip slightly bilobed ; lower lip lobes rounded , margins ± entire ; stamens 4 , glabrous with few hairs at base ; anthers white , glabrous .
