Orobanche ramosa L.

This species is native to Macaronesia, W & Central Mediterranean, extending to NE Tropical Africa; introduced elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Orobanche found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect annual or perennial parasitic herb ; up to 25 cm in height . Stems erect , simple or branched from base , slender , whitish to yellowish or pale purple , glandular-pubescent . Leaves reduced to brown scales , ovate , acute , inconspicuous , 3–10 mm . Inflorescences densely spaced along the length of the stem , lower flowers ± pedicellate ; bracts 5–10 mm , ovate lanceolate , cream to greyish ; bracteoles linear-lanceolate , adnate to the calyx . Flowers bright blue with white centres , trumpet shaped ; calyx 5–10 mm , tubular , 4-lobed ; lobes lanceolate , acute , glandular-pubescent ; corolla 10–13 mm , tubular , inflated , curved and constricted just above calyx , erect to patent , white at base , white to bluish above with conspicuous white bosses inside throat , glandular-pilose ; upper lip slightly bilobed ; lower lip 3-lobed , margins ± entire ; stamens 4 , glabrous ; anthers glabrous ; stigma lobes cream-white or bluish .
