Striga densiflora (Benth.) Benth.

This species is native to Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent, extending to China (Yunnan). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Striga found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Semi-parasitic annual herb ; up to 20 cm high . Stems erect , branching from base , sparsely hairy . Leaves opposite , 5–7 × ± 1 mm , ascending , sessile , linear . Inflorescences axillary , solitary , alternate , in long dense terminal spikes almost the entire length of the stem ; lower bracts leaf-like , 6–7 mm ; the upper linear to subulate ; bracteoles subulate . Flowers white (turning inky blue on drying) ; calyx tubular , 5-lobed ; teeth 5–5 . 5 mm , lanceolate , hispid ciliate ; corolla white (turning inky blue on drying) , 2-lipped , glandular-pubescent outside ; tube narrow , 9–10 mm , curved at right angles just above calyx teeth ; limb with lobes obovate ; lower lobes 3 , ± 3 mm ; stamens 4 , didynamous , inserted in the tube below the mouth ; anthers monothecous . Fruit capsule , 4–5 mm , ovoid . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
