Pandanus tectorius Parkinson ex Du Roi

This species is native to Philippines extending to Pacific; introduced and cultivated elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Pandanus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Small evergreen dioecious   tree ; up to 4 m tall , with a slender single trunk and brown ringed bark . Stems erect , multi-branched , prickly . Leaves spirally arranged at the end of the branches , sword-shaped , stiff (leather-like) , with saw-like margins . Flowers sweet fragrant , dioecious . Male flowers , in racemes , grouped in 3 , gathered in large clusters surrounded by big , white bracts , small , fragrant , short-lived . Fruit segmented , large , with a diameter of 4–20 cm and a length of 8–30 cm , ovoid , ellipsoid , subglobose or globose , made up of 38–200 wedge-like phalanges .
