Hypecoum pendulum L.

This species is native to Mediterranean, extending to Central Asia and W Himalaya, Arabian Peninsula eastwards to NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Hypecoum occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

procumbent to erect annual herb ; up to 35 cm , glabrous . Stems slender , erect , arising from a basal rosette . Leaves radical , 2-3-pinnatisect , linear . Inflorescences (1-) 2-4 flowered , in axillary or terminal cyme , on 1-4 cm long peduncle . Flowers bisexual , actinomorphic , 8-12 mm across , pale yellow ; sepals 2 , free , green , ovate to lanceolate ; petals 4 , outer petals variable , from lanceolate to obscurely lobed , inner petals with dark purple markings , the central lobe as broad as or narrower than the base of the petal ; stamens opposite the petals , 5-6 mm long ; anthers linear to oblong , with or without a gland on either sides at the base of the filament ; ovary cylindrical , 6 mm long , brownish ; stigmas 2 , recurved , somewhat yellow . Fruit pendulous , linear-cylindrical , straight or slightly curved . Seeds c . 2 mm long , grayish , flattened , oblique , semicircular . (Ref . Miller & Cop ; 1996) .
